umanity is reaching a crisis point with respect to the interlocking issues of population, resources and environment
While our generation may be comfortable in the knowledge that we will make
it through our lives without facing the consequences in these areas, the same is not true for our children and grandchildren
With current demographic trends, by the time a 10 year-old African girl reaches 100, she will be joined
by 16 times as many inhabitants on that continent. (Africa will double in 25 years) This trend will unfold while food supplies in the
area continue to decline as desertification continues
to erode Africa's arable land mass All of the 17 major fisheries of the world are currently being fished at or over capacity with nine in
a state of decline Similar trends exist globally. World food reserves are in actual decline. The decade of
the 90's saw world grain production drop on a per capita basis
Our principal natural resources - water, soil, and air are also being spent on today's needs at the expense of tomorrow's.
At what point along this alarming route does our conscience go to work, and our need to act begin?
